Class Descriptions

Premier Dance offers a variety of class styles so that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a well-rounded dance education. These individual style classes focus on just one genre of dance, which allows for more specific instruction for a longer period of time on the single style you love most.

Below are the different Specialty Classes that we currently offer. If you have questions, or need class placement assistance, please contact us.

Acro/Tumbling

We have 4 levels for our Acro/Tumblers. Each class focuses on gaining the strength, balance and coordination needed to execute the skills that each level is working through. Our Acro classes do not use Gymnastics apparatus such as a balance beam, uneven bars, or vault. We focus strictly on tumbling, strength training, and flexibility, and how that translates to dance.

Ballet

Ballet is a foundation of many styles of dance and requires focus, discipline, a passion to learn, an openness to corrections, and a desire to develop artistry. We currently offer 6 levels of Ballet as well as Pre-Pointe and Pointe (see below). Placement into our Ballet classes is determined by age, experience, and ability. Ballet builds on fundamentals, which means it is very important that all dancers begin with the basics before moving up levels to ensure safety. We emphasize proper alignment, terminology, musicality, and technique while guiding dancers to discover the beauty and artistry of Ballet. Dancers will learn the proper terminology and technique for Ballet steps, and will also learn anatomy of bones and muscles to better understand how our bodies complete movements safely.

Our Ballet instructors teach in the following Ballet disciplines; Miss Skylar (Cecchetti with notes of Balanchine) Miss Emily (RAD) and Miss Jaye (Cecchetti). Our teachers are also well-versed in the Vaganova technique, as our partner for the Great Russian Nutcracker at the Moscow City Ballet uses Vaganova technique for their castings and performances.

Flexibility & Conditioning

This class is designed to stretch and lengthen your muscles, and improve overall strength, control, and flexibility. Exercises for strengthening muscles and core strength are a large focus as well. This class is a must for anyone looking for that core control, strength, and balance to facilitate a stronger dance foundation and improve overall technique. Flexibility and Conditioning class is offered in all levels.

Hip-Hop

This class includes an energetic cardio pumping warm up a stretching segment to work on flexibility and being limber and will explore the many different styles of hip-hop. From funk, to street, to B-boy and B-girl dancing, popping, tutting, etc. Different fun and challenging Hip-Hop combos are taught. Hip-Hop class will perform one routine in our end of year recital.

Jazz

Jazz dance focuses on technique, musicality, isolations, and style. Jazz tends to be more upbeat and more fast paced. Dancers will learn proper Jazz technique while having fun! It is recommended to take Ballet if you would like to take Jazz.

Jumps & Turns

Our Jumps and Turns classes focus strictly on technique and will not include a recital routine. Dancers will work on building strength, flexibility, and coordination in their turns, leaps and jumps. Center and across the floor combinations and exercises will be used to achieve this. It is recommended to take Ballet if you would like to take Jumps and Turns.

Pre-Pointe and Pointe

Pre-Pointe and Pointe are both at the instructor's discretion. Pointe is a beautiful art form but can be very dangerous if started too young, or too early in a dancer's training. Our Pointe instructor's have immense knowledge in human physiology and anatomy, and understand in depth how to assess when a student is ready to safely begin dancing en pointe. A doctor's clearance may also be required.

The minimum age considered for Pre-Pointe is 10, with 4 years of Ballet experience.
The minimum age considered for Pointe is 12, with 5 years of Ballet experience.

Tap

Tap is a dance form that is characterized by rhythmical tapping of the toes and heels. Dancers will learn musicality, beginning music theory, and how to create rhythms with their toes and heels. .
